Busan Metropolitan Library

Floating Library

Busan Library is a floating library. Libraries that accompany the daily lives of city residents can no longer be confined within a limited site, and their cultural role naturally extends to surrounding areas. To this end, the land that communicates and exchanges with the surrounding urban environment is opened to the public to accommodate various activities of city residents. The organic connection between the floating form of the library and the land open to the public is an important architectural task that gives a sense of place to the form. The main lobby (Glass Tree), which connects the library and activities, becomes an urban attraction that provides a new daily life by naturally encouraging people to move from the ground. The scenery of residential areas on back roads is a valuable asset of the city, retaining traces of life. The library located here does not overwhelm the surrounding area with its huge volume, but rather harmonizes with the existing streetscape.
